Matrakçı Nâsuh'un Hayatı ve Eserleri Üzerine Notlar

Abstract

This article focusus on the life and works of Matrakçı Nasûh, who was a well known artisan and historian in the 16th century.  In particular, it examines his major work the Süleymân-nâme and other studies related to it. At the same time it at- tempts to clarify some heretofore misconstrued aspects pertaining to Matrakçı’s life and work.  It does not examine his role as a Matrakçı (Joker/Jokester); rather it discusses his identity as a geographer.  In so doing, it provides information on the place names and geographical characteristics of the regions along the routes of Kanunî Süleyman’s 1543 Sikloş campaign and his second military expedition against Iran in 1548.
