Note on a Nineteenth Century Painting of the Sacred Precinct in Mecca

Abstract

A painting of the great mosque (Masjid-i Haram) in Mecca prompts specula- tion as to its obscure origins and history, to which is appended a review of the history of representations of that space, including suggested minor revision of that chronology and some questions for further research.
