Abstract

This essay is based on the publication of a timar register from 1445 for Prilep- Kičevo which is a fine example of early Ottoman record-keeping. This register which ref- lects the early implementation of the Ottoman timar organization survived partially in fragmented form, torn from a more comprehensive register, and it is located in Maliyeden Müdevver fonds in the Prime Ministry’s Ottoman Archives (no. 303). The badly damaged fragment that lost some of its data after restoration is an important archival piece as the earliest Ottoman timar register after that of Arnavid Sancağı dated 1432. Moreover, its signi- ficance lies in its demonstrating the early implementation of the Ottoman timar system.
